CivilDev
Where should I report a problem?
CivilDev is an independent community space. Posting here can help neighbours discuss a local problem, but it does not submit a repair request, complaint or emergency report to a council, landlord or other authority. No organisation is currently contracted to receive CivilDev posts as formal reports.
Immediate danger
Call 999 in an emergency. Do not wait for a reply on CivilDev. For urgent housing repairs, contact your landlord's emergency repair service too.
A problem in your home or social housing
Report repairs and hazards directly to your landlord and keep its reference number. If you are unhappy with the response, use its complaints process. For social housing in England, the official guidance explains when to contact the Housing Ombudsman.
Read the government's social housing reporting guidanceRules for social landlords in England
These rules concern the landlord and its official processes. A CivilDev post does not start those processes.
- The Regulator of Social Housing's consumer standard sets expectations for registered social landlords to listen to residents and provide accessible information.
- The Housing Ombudsman Complaint Handling Code sets requirements for landlords' complaint procedures.
- Awaab's Law sets duties and timeframes for social landlords dealing with specified hazards. Tell your landlord through its official route so it can act on a hazard report.
A road or pavement problem
Report it to the responsible council or highway authority. You can also share a CivilDev post to discuss its effect on your community.

Use CivilDev to discuss a public issue, propose an idea or record an update. Avoid posting private addresses, phone numbers, children's details or photos identifying people without permission. Five members can mark an issue as appearing fixed; this is a community signal, not proof of an official repair.
