CivilDev

Terms of Service

Last updated 1 October 2026

CivilDev is a place to discuss local issues, share ideas and projects, and work with other community members. These terms apply when you use the CivilDev website or app. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them.

Who can use CivilDev

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under 18, ask a parent or guardian to review these terms with you.

Email and password registration asks for your date of birth and prevents account creation if the date supplied shows you are under 13. This is a self-declared age check, not identity or age verification. Google sign-in does not ask for your age.

You can submit a public community issue report as a guest without registering or providing your age.

Provide accurate account information, keep your sign-in details private, and tell us through the contact page if you think someone has accessed your account.

Your contributions

You can publish issue reports, ideas, projects, forum posts, comments, images and other contributions. You keep ownership of your content. You give CivilDev a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, copy, display and adapt it only as needed to operate, promote and improve the service. This licence ends when your content is removed, except for copies reasonably needed for backups, legal obligations or contributions already shared with others.

Only share material you have the right to use. Think carefully before publishing personal details, photographs or precise locations: public contributions and profile information may be visible to others.

Community rules

Do not post illegal, threatening, harassing, discriminatory, fraudulent, defamatory or infringing material. Do not impersonate others, expose someone else's private information, send spam, interfere with the service or try to access accounts or systems without permission.

Keep reports and proposals honest and relevant. CivilDev may review reports, restrict features, remove content or suspend accounts when these rules are broken or action is needed to protect people or the service. You can report a concern or ask us to review an action through our contact page.

Civic information and collaboration

CivilDev is an independent community platform. A post, map marker, vote, project status or user role is not an official council decision or a promise that work will be carried out. Check important information with the relevant authority. For an emergency or immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency service directly.

Idea pilot ballots are advisory. Their published counts describe participating member accounts only; they do not establish a representative or binding community decision. The Idea author is responsible for explaining the next step and publishing follow-up updates.

A community issue report does not notify a council or landlord or start a formal repair or complaint process. Five members voting that an issue appears fixed is a community signal, not official verification. Use our reporting guide to find the appropriate official route.

Collaborators should respect each other's work and permissions. Do not present another person's proposal as your own or commit another user or public body to an action without authority.

Privacy and service changes

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information. We may change features or these terms as the service develops. We will publish an updated date and give reasonable notice of material changes where appropriate.

Availability and responsibility

We work to keep CivilDev useful and available, but we cannot promise uninterrupted access or that user contributions are accurate. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot legally be excluded, or affects your statutory rights. To the extent permitted by law, CivilDev is not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when you started using the service.

Contact and governing law

For questions about these terms, use the CivilDev contact page. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, without taking away mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live.
